We all know how important a healthy and beautiful smile is to us, for both aesthetic and functional reasons. It is a common misconception that the loss of a tooth in the mouth is not a problem if it is not in a visible place. However, every tooth is important – for speech and for maintaining chewing function. If the toothless area is not filled with the implant, the adjacent teeth begin to move and tilt after a while. Also the tooth in the opposite jaw that was in contact with this tooth descends into the empty space, which over time can lead to the loss of that tooth as well.
The use of dental implants is a great solution when there is a complete loss of one tooth or even extreme toothlessness.
Dental implants are titanium screws that are inserted into the jawbone to replace the root of a missing tooth. It is very important that the patient has enough jawbone for the implant to be implanted. In case of its lack, after consultation with the implantologist, artificial bone can be implanted that coalesces with the jaw and gives the desired height of the ridge for implant placement.
The procedure for the implantation of a dental implant is painless because it is performed under anaesthesia and it does not take too long. It is often quicker than making a filling – about half an hour.
It should be noted that the so-called All on 4 procedure takes longer due to the reconstruction of the entire edentulous jaw, so the patient spends a little longer in the clinic, waiting for the impression and the preparation of temporary work that will allow them to function normally until the permanent solution of the BioHPP bridge is set.
Since dental implants are highly biocompatible, they completely coalesce with the bone over a period of about 3 months and become a part of your body. When placing this artificial bone, the coalescing process can take up to 6 months.
When this period is over, the top of the implant is revealed (because it has fused with the gums) and the so-called suprastructure is put onto it (connects the dental implant and the crown). An impression is taken and, in cooperation with our laboratory, we start making crowns, paying attention to both the aesthetic part (for example, determining the colour of the crown based on the existing ones) and the overall functionality. At the end of the whole process, you will have a tooth or teeth that look completely natural.
It is especially important to follow all the instructions related to behaviour and the maintenance of the same after the dental implant placement procedure.
In our Dentex clinic, the implantation of dental implants is performed by mr.sc. Damir Zekić, one of the leading experts in the field of dentistry and oral surgery.
